Travelling to University of Essex
Heathrow (LHR)
There are several options:
The simplest, and probably the most convenient if you have a lot of luggage, is to get a coach from Heathrow Airport to Stansted Airport. From Stansted there is a coach directly to campus. For timetables and fares, see ‘Heathrow travel between airports’.
You can take the London Underground (also known as the Tube). Take the Piccadilly Line to Holborn, and change to the Central Line (eastbound). Take the Central Line to Liverpool Street Station, from where you can get a train to Colchester. From Colchester train station, take a bus or taxi to campus. Please note that the Tube has a large number of stairs and sometimes long distances to walk within stations, so if you have a large amount of luggage, this is not a suitable way to travel to the University.
You can take a train called the Heathrow Express to Paddington. That is much faster but more expensive than taking the Piccadilly Line. However, from Paddington you still need to take the Tube to Liverpool Street Station. (use either the Circle Line or the Hammersmith & City Line, both eastbound).
Gatwick (LGW)
There are several options:
The simplest, and probably the most convenient if you have a lot of luggage, is to get a coach from Gatwick Airport to Stansted Airport. From Stansted there is a coach directly to campus. For timetables and fares, see ‘Gatwick travel between airports’.
Alternatively, it is possible to travel via London: You can take a train called the Gatwick Express to Victoria. Once there, change to the London Underground (also known as the Tube). Take the Circle Line (travelling towards Tower Hill) to Liverpool Street Station, from where you can get a train to Colchester. From Colchester train station, take a bus or taxi to campus. Please note that the Tube has a large number of stairs and sometimes long distances to walk within stations, so if you have a large amount of luggage, this is not a suitable way to travel to the University.
Stansted (STN)
This airport is the closest to Colchester. There is a coach directly from the airport to campus. For timetables and fares, seeStansted Buses and coaches.
There are numerous flights to Stansted from cities such as Dublin, Paris, or Amsterdam. You may wish to consider flying to one of those cities and then to Stansted, particularly if you have a large amount of luggage.
